Frequently asked questions!
Why do I need a makeup artist for my big day?
It is one day you need balance and calm in your life, you do not want to run arround to much on this day, have everyone come to you and get you ready, also not to mention it is your face! I am sorry there are a lifetime of makeup tips and wedding tips that go hand and hand with photography. That is not to say you have to wear a pound of makeup for it to show up. It can be natural, however it is a process, one that I don't think any bride should take on, unless you know your makeup and you have makeup skills. In that case, I will even teach you myself. If it is a budget matter, I do feel your look is at the top of the list of priorities, that is just my personal belief.

How do I justify spending that money for makeup?
This is simple to me, I never understand why women buy shoes and spend so much money for them, not blinking and eye, however when it is your face, the one thing that people will look at all day, you are thinking about cutting costs, please don't. Invest the money, the pictures that you look at for the rest of your life, you want to be flawless and timeless. It is worth every penny. Also I do love shoes, so not to say that I think you should give that up. You are worth it, but your face is so much more important than the look of your feet.

Do you take checks on the day of the wedding?
Yes, however it is not the check that makes me nervous, my history of checks bouncing on me, tends to make me a little nervous. However I want you to feel like you have options as well, so I will take a check from the bride. If one of the bridesmaids forgets cash that day, I will take a check from the bride for her payment. So then I don't have so many different checks that day.

If my wedding isn't until next year or 6 mos from now, when should I set up my trial?
This I always have to balance out, since I get booked a year in advance, I have so many brides, to think of when booking. I suggest going to my site to view my work, and then booking 2-3mos prior to your wedding for the trial. If you are out of town, I will work out whatever time you have, I know this can be tough!

What should I bring to my trial and how long will it be?
Your trial will take an hour or so. You need to bring just yourself, you can bring pictures of your dress, hair, flowers, looks in a magazine that you like, your planner, and a friend or mom for support. If you come with a clean face, great If not I will cleanse your skin for you!

Can my mother or bridesmaids have a trial?
Yes, of course however it is $50 for anyone other than the bride. Their trials will also have to be scheduled on a seperate day. Your trial is truly a time to center on your needs and create your vision.

Can I get my trial done for hair on the same day?
Yes, this is a great way to see the look come together! Ella and Mindy both do the hair trials with me in my studio. This is so convenient!

Do I have to pay a booking fee before we meet for our trial?
It is best that you do, however I will tentatively book you, and when someone else calls to book your day, and they will...I will call you and let you know that it is time to send the non-refundable booking fee of $30. This is to secure me for the day, and for me it is a way to make sure you are serious about a booking. If for any reason, you could not make the trial, or found another artist, I will refund that money. If I have the pleasure of meeting you I know you will love the makeup!

Do you have a contract?
Yes I do, and I will make you a copy as well!

What If you could not make it on my wedding day to do the makeup?
Oh god this makes my stomach turn, this has never happened ,thank the angels above, however If a tornado would sweep me up and take me away, or god forbid something tragic happen, break my legs and arms,a death in the family or accident...I would do whatever I could possibly do to find you another artist for your day! I work with many mac artist's and I have 3 that I think have very similar styles. I also know an entire industry of creative people! If it was the actual day of your wedding, and something bad happened, I would pay for the bride's makeup. There can never be a sick day on someone's wedding, or a day you say"I need a me day" NEVER,EVER,EVER!!! You can count on me and my devotion.

Do I need to pay my makeup artist a tip?
Ok this I can understand why it would be confusing, first of all the price is usually substantial, now the price includes many things not just the makeup, however every makeup artist does feel differently about this. I will tell you how I feel. I NEVER expect a tip, I feel appreciative when I get one. However I feel that my price does include what I need it to in order for me to have a lucrative business. If I get a tip for $5 or $20, to me I am grateful, but never feel like that is something you have to do, I will still bend over backwards for you, to make your day special!!!

How long do I wait to hear from an artist If I email or leave a message regarding hiring her for my wedding day?
Ladies this is simple and I must explain this one as well. 24hours is a substantial time to wait, that is it. There are times that artist's go on photoshoots as apart of their careers, so If someone does not respond by email please call them, I know I go away alot too. Now this is another thing that is SO important. I get about 10 new brides a day, If you email me I get right back to you within that day by sending you all of the information!!!! If you call me I will call you back usually the next day in the morning with all of the details. The only way possible for me not to get back to you is if something is wrong: I am on vacation, and it would take a week,my little one is sick(if I am sick I will still get back to you) my main problem is the computer, there is no way possible that I would not respond to you, unless you sent it and I did not get it...SPAM sometimes, mailer-demons, computer crashing, computer freezing.I ALWAYS respond, I want to work with you more than anything, you are the reason I am in business!!!! please If you are interested in booking myself or any other artist and we did not get back to you, realize in this case the COMPUTER(only) is not a 100% guarantee, the phone cell phone and speaking to someone is a guarantee. to speak to the artist or even leave a message, Feel free to call me anytime to discuss details! home 410933-8608 410294-9925

Do I have to buy the makeup that you use on me in our trial?
Oh my gosh no way, you do not want to add more costs to your wedding budget. I use all of my stuff in my kit, basically 4 cases of it! I also write down the color of the lipstick so you can purchase (only that) it for the day. I also use a 12 hour lipstick on you If you wanted to just buy a gloss. I try to keep your costs down as much as possible. Also many of my clients will show me their cosmetics and I help decide what they need to add to it, or change their look. I know many bargains so not to worry, you do not have to spend a ton of money!

DO I have to wear a ton of makeup to have my features show up in pictures, even If I dont wear alot of it?
NO way, stay true to yourself, I hate heavy makeup, I don't want you to look like a clown, raccoon, or dragqueen. I love dragqueens and I consider them to be true divas, I have many wonderful clients as well, that love the drama. However wedding day makeup, not a chance! You want it to look flawless, timeless, and feel light on your face. Not to say that you will not have a full face of products on, you just will not look like it. Blend away that is what I say. Makeup is supposed to make you feel special not like you want to wear a bag over your head because you are uncomfortable! Not to worry.

Why do I need an artist if I can do my own makeup, I am just so natural?
I look at this in one way, you may be natural but that does not mean the makeup should not be drop dead gorgeous. Even the most natural look can be breathtaking, not just mascara and lipgloss. It is a technique that you are paying for, wedding makeup is special because it has to endure many hours of photographs, kissing, and crying or simply being overheated because people are hugging you all day. My advice is: if you are looking for $30-$40 makeup or makeovers that look like something you would do every day, then save that money and create a look yourself that you love or research a few artist's to make sure the makeup is one of a kind. However If you are looking for makeup that lasts all day, has flawless light coverage, makes your eyes really stand out, and will look picture perfect for the entire day and night, hire a professional to do all of the work, you should not have to do anything at all . Just sit back and relax. A beautiful wedding dress(that is not an every day dress, deserves beautiful makeup, even if it is natural)
